Just putting this here before I even go any further: Potential Spoilers. Bare with me, folks.
Yesterday I finally went and saw Captain Marvel; it was everything I wanted and more. I'm a massive Marvel fan (like I'm streaming Agents of SHIELD as we speak, folks), and they did not do me any wrong.
The movie starts out with a tribute to Stan Lee, and I essentially started my crying at that point (after I'd already dried it up after the Frozen 2 and Dumbo trailers). I was in awe of how it went about telling the origin story of how that Carol Danvers ended up becoming a Kree and where her powers came from.
The story had me at times in tears seeing someone who reminds me so much of the part of me that I want to be better at. I cried so much seeing the beginning of Fury and Coulson's friendships. I essentially was in tears for most of the movie and had to quit eating my popcorn because I also had to find something else to do with my hands.
This is a story of friendship, self-discovery, family, love, and freedom. It is a story that tells us that if you don't know the whole story then you need to learn it before picking sides. It teaches us that it doesn't matter if you're male or female -- if you truly believe in something then you chase after it.
This movie was so much more than just the origin of Carol Danvers. This movie sets us up for something fantastic that is about to happen.
I cannot wait to see how Carol Danvers fits into Endgame. She is a character you will not want to miss.
I also rate this movie 5/5 stars. It is quite possibly my favorite movie to date in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. (And, that is saying a lot because Tom Holland as Spider-Man is the best.)
Side note: You'll want to stay all the way through to the end of the credits because there's a very, very pleasant surprise.
