gnash: The Broken Hearts Club Tour

Back in September, I attended a concert in Atlanta at the Coca-Cola Roxy to see All Time Low on the Summer Ever After Tour they were co-headlining with Dashboard Confessional. On that tour there was an opener named gnash who I fell in love with as he was performing. He was such a great act that in that moment I told Ashley we needed to see him live. Fast forward a couple of months and BAM we were getting our tickets to see him.

On January 17th, we saw gnash at the Cowan at Topgolf in Nashville. This venue was great. The line moved swiftly once the doors opened and they were efficient in how to separate those who were above 21 and those below 21 by markings. They were quick in checking bags as well. The venue has a general admission floor and then a balcony, which was blocked off for our show. And, on the plus side, the bathrooms were really nice.

The merch was nicely priced, to which I discussed with the merch guy, who gladly informed me he lived next door to 5 Seconds of Summer in LA and knew with certainty that Rian Dawson and Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low were going to be at the show. So, I obviously regretted what my clothing choices were, but I just decided to own it.

The show has two openers who were good, but they weren't acts I'm going to actively follow but I have dug some of their tunes since the show. People in the audience clearly loved them, which was good, because Ashley and I were three rows from the front, so we acted like we were into them too.

The audience was great -- at least the people closest to us were. There were a handful that tried to make it an awful night at times. There was one lady who was drunk off her rocker who kept yelling stuff at the stage even when gnash came on that was rude and inappropriate. So, she got escorted off, thankfully. There was another group of guys who kept yelling stuff and talking about stuff at a very loud voice that got on everyone's nerves. BUT, through all of it, I made some of the greatest concert friends I have ever made. There were two girls behind us that were awesome and then another group of two girls who lived close by that we got to talk to after the show. These four made our night by the fact that they were there for the right reasons and helped over ride the negativity of the few.

The show, in itself, was spectacular. gnash and his band are always amazing. He sung pretty much the entirety of "we" his album and sang a lot of older songs we all love too. I didn't miss a beat the whole night, and I loved it. All the songs were amazing and I loved the talks he had with the audience throughout the show.

After the show was the group meet and greet, and it was the best time of my life. We divided up into groups to meet people who were also big fans and members of the fan club. This is when things get interesting and I officially became the lamest person in the world for 2.5 seconds. While we were in our groups Rian and Alex just casually strolled down the stairs and off the stage and five feet away FROM WHERE I WAS STANDING. So, I obviously stared at them and had no words. But, that was quickly cut short whenever we did a group meditation session. While during the meditation session, GNASH SAT DOWN RIGHT BESIDE ME. LIKE RIGHT BESIDE ME. So, obviously, it was awesome. I got to share how I've learned how meditation is used in education and how I plan on implementing it into my teaching structure now. He said that students are "lucky to have me" because of encouraging this type of actions to help with mental and emotional learning. Then we all took pictures with him and then he came around A SECOND TIME to tell me that he wishes me good luck in teaching. So, obviously, I've been blessed by an angel of God.

After the show, it was good talking with other people who enjoyed it as much as I did. I also was on cloud nine for days afterwards and haven't taken the wrist band off my wrist that was my ticket into the meet and greet.

All in all, it was one of my all time favorite concerts because of the experiences and the ability to just have a night to where I could be myself and feel things I haven't felt in a long time.

In rewind, though, before the show, Ashley and I spent time wandering around Nashville killing time after I had class at TSU that early afternoon. We went and found the venue and then spent time driving around and went to Bicentennial Park. At the park, we walked part of the one mile loop and visited the Parthenon. At the Parthenon, we were given a personal tour and admitted FOR FREE because of a thing they do at the Parthenon. Our tour guide showed us hidden things within the building and told us more than what was explained on the little plaques. We had a very unique experience and one we're still talking about and telling everyone they need to do. We then ate at Panera Bread and went to find our spots in line.

Why am I sharing all of this? I am sharing this to say that whenever you travel for a concert or get there early, take advantage of the city around you. Take advantage of being able to experience new things. The whole day was one I'll remember for ever and one I'm going to tell everyone about it.

What's your favorite concert experience you've had? Share with me below!

Attire? Shoes: Adidas Cloud Foam; leggings from Walmart; shirt from Walmart; Nike Jacket; Bag from Kohl's which is small enough to go through bag check at the show. Aka, this is homeless chic ft my hair that was EVERYWHERE.
