About a year and a half ago, I started rewatching the Gilmore Girls series. I'd bought the first season on DVD, but after watching about halfway through it, I couldn't bring myself to pick it back up for a while. Why? Because in the first season, something happens to Lorelei's father, and I was watching that episode when I got the news about my Pa having passed away.

But, never fear, I finally picked it back up and now I've just finished my run through with it. It's such a great show, and I'm so sad to see it be finished (but I've started A Year in the Life, which will get it's own post, by the way).

This show is one of those that I can always return to that is like an old friend. Stars Hollow will always be home in a way. Throughout watching it, I started realizing what I had in common with certain characters that might have had an influence on me growing up.

Rory reminds me a lot of myself in my love of reading and being too easy to trust people. As she progresses through the series, particularly her college years, I realize how much I relate to her in the aspect of wondering what is going to happen next and holding out for that dream job instead of grasping what is right in front of her. Her friendship with Paris brings me life in that she just accepts Paris for who she is. (Don't even get me started on her boyfriend choices. Ugh. See my Twitter and Instagram for those posts, folks.)

Paris Gellar is probably the most underrated character in the whole series. She simply strives for the best, over plans, and is a bit eccentric -- just like me. While I might have the appetite and sense of humor of the Gilmore women, I am most like Paris in regards to academics and how I handle confrontations and stress. She is truly a fantastic individual.

Lorelei is one who gives me hope. Her and Sookie both. They both embody what I want out of life as a fierce individual. They both show how that you can be successful in your own terms and are irrevocably themselves the entire time. They're just simply amazing.

The whole town is, really, along with the entire cast is just phenomenal. I can sing this show's praises for a long, long time. I grew up watching this show, and I'll continue growing and getting something out of it each time I watch it. The fast talking and the coffee drinking will always be familiar. The sights and seeing Miss Patty teaching ballet always gives me a warm feeling in my stomach. This show is one for the books and one that I can't wait to share with my future children (that are in the WAYYYYY distant future, don't be getting any ideas). It is one that I share with everyone already and tell them they need to watch. Especially while eating Friday night dinner.

Enjoy a cookie from Westin's, say hello to Michel at the Dragonfly for me, and don't worry about Kirk's next move, because he'll be on to something else before long. Oh, and I can't wait to see Hep Alien's next big gig while drinking some coffee at Luke's.

(And, yes, I am looking into taking a trip to Connecticut.)
