This book was a much pleasant surprise. When I bought it on Audible, I wasn't too familiar with the story line of Carmen Sandiego. I've heard of the game, and I've played some here and there. I just wasn't 100% familiar with her origin story.

Tinker wrote this Audible Original based on the new Netflix series that is out (and at the time of writing this post, I haven't seen the series yet).

The story told here is about how Carmen Sandiego was adopted by the teachers who ran Vile Academy -- where you learn how to become a Vile agent. The story progresses through how that Carmen (aka Black Sheep) goes about meeting Player -- her white-hat hacker friend. Black Sheep also realizes that those who she trusts might not always have her best interests at heart.

I enjoyed listening to this short book (with a total run time of 4.5 hours). It was an enjoyable listen as the author wrote it in such a way that you can picture everything as it was happening. When things were happening to Black Sheep, I felt it and responded back to it by, yes, talking back to the book. When I reached the end of it, I stayed in my truck the extra 10 minutes to finish listening to it. It was absolutely fantastic.

It also was a nice change of pace from other origin stories I've listened to about characters that were already well established in one way to change what is canon to make something different but very well done. The leap of faith to by Netflix and the author of this book is one that I am definitely behind. I definitely cannot wait to watch the Netflix series and see what happens as it continues on from this book.

You can find the book here on Amazon.
